Commencement of the First Demonstration Experiment of Delivery by Automated Robots from Multiple Stores in Japan

Today, ENEOS Holdings, Inc. (Representative Director and President: Ota Katsuyuki, hereinafter “ENEOS”), ZMP Inc. (CEO: Taniguchi Hisashi, hereinafter “ZMP”), and anyCarry Inc. (CEO: Kosaki Hidenobu, hereinafter “anyCarry”) have announced they will conduct a delivery demonstration experiment using automated delivery robots in the Tsukuda and Tsukishima areas of Chuo Ward, Tokyo between February 8 and February 26, 2021.
Following the signing of the collaboration agreement with ZMP and anyCarry announced on December 16, 2020, ENEOS has been preparing for this demonstration experiment with these three companies. Products from 10 partner companies and 10 stores in the Tsukuda and Tsukishima areas will be delivered to the target customers during the demonstration. This will be the first time in Japan that automatic delivery robots will deliver products from multiple stores, including restaurants and convenience stores. Moreover, such use of automated delivery robots will make contactless delivery systems a reality. Through this demonstration, we will work to identify technical and business issues, such as the accuracy and safety of automatic robot driving, delivery costs, delivery times, and the simplicity of order forms, with the aim of establishing a unique delivery infrastructure using automated delivery robots.
The specific initiatives to be undertaken in this demonstration experiment entail the operation of a platform jointly constructed by ENEOS and anyCarry for ordering, collection, payment, etc., as well as properly receiving orders from target residents and delivering those orders using robots. Additionally, drawing from our collaboration with Toshin Energy Co.Ltd. (CEO: Hike Shintaro, hereinafter “Toshin Energy”) as the robots’ charging and delivery base, we will install a ZMP automated delivery robot at Toshin Energy’s Dr. Drive Tsukishima SS (address: 2-18-8 Tsukuda, Chuo-ku, Tokyo). We have plans to hold an online briefing session for the press on these matters. Details will be announced separately.
The three companies will identify the technical and business issues of this project with the aim of designing and building an optimal system and business, along with a safe, secure, and low-cost delivery infrastructure, by 2022. We will also study the integration of ENEOS’s existing services with this new delivery service as well as consider various other services that utilize automated delivery robots.
