Collaboration with Preferred Networks, Inc.-To create and strengthen JXTG Group’s business utilizing AI technology-

In order to create innovative businesses that utilize AI technology in the manufacturing industry in which Eneos currently operates, we have invested in Preferred Networks, a top runner in the industrial application of AI technology, with the hope of establishing a strategic collaboration system.

Our company (President: Sugimori Tsutomu) has invested in Preferred Networks, Inc. (hereinafter “PFN”) and will establish a strategic collaboration system with the aim of transforming businesses and creating new value using AI technology.

PFN is a world leader in promoting cutting-edge research for industrial applications of AI technology with leading companies and organizations in various industries.
Since last year we have investigated alongside PFN the use of AI technology in the fields of automatic plant operations and material exploration. Based in part on the results of that investigation, we decided to invest in the company to build a stronger relationship.
We think this relationship will greatly expand the possibility of creating innovative businesses that utilize AI technology in the manufacturing industry that the Group handles.

In the “2040 JXTG Group Long-term Vision” announced on May 13, the Group considers the recent progress of the digital revolution as an opportunity. One of our goals is to create new value,execute innovative businesses, and continue to be a company that society needs.
Through this alliance with PFN, we continuously consider co-creation in a wide range of fields and aim to innovate in various fields as a group.

Fields that are considering creating innovative businesses that utilize AI technology

(1) Automatic Plant Operation (petroleum refining, petrochemicals, metal smelting, etc.)

We aim to realize the construction of an overwhelmingly highly efficient smart plant whose large-scale and complex equipment may be controlled automatically with AI.
Since the automated plant operation technology we have created can be widely and horizontally deployed, it has the potential to fundamentally revolutionize the manufacturing industry.

(2) Material Exploration (catalyst, lubricant, functional material, metallic material, etc.)

In the field of material exploration, materials informatics technology is attracting attention and has the potential for unprecedented transformation.
By fusing our group’s molecular simulation technology and PFN’s AI technology, we aim to radically accelerate material exploration.
